The below describes the turn off procedure for non-payment:
The City of Meridian disconnects water for non-payment 2 times per month as directed and approved by the City Council.
For your convenience a schedule of the year's billing and turn-off dates has been posted on our site. Please refer to it for deadlines regarding payment.
The City of Meridian mails 2 statements before disconnection of service. The second statement lists the final due date and time that we will allow payments to avoid disconnection of any services. This allows our customers 40-45 days to make payments before their account becomes delinquent and is subject to having the water services disconnected.
All delinquent payments must be received by 2:00 pm Tuesday prior to shut off.
The morning of shut off (Wednesday), a list of those accounts that are to have their water disconnected is generated by the Billing Department. The list is given to the Water Department staff to proceed with disconnection of service.
Water Department staff disconnects the water service to all residents on the list. The Water Department staff is usually finished turning all delinquent accounts off by noon. Once all accounts are disconnected the Water Department staff contacts the billing staff to request notification of the accounts that have made the required payment. For those who have made the required payment the Water Department staff makes every effort to have water turned back on by 5 pm. In any case, all paid accounts are turned on before the Water Department staff concludes the work day.
If your service has been terminated for non payment, do not cut the padlock and reactivate your service.
Illegal turn-ons are assessed a $50.00 fee and the meter is removed until the account is paid in full.
