May 15, 2013 Storey Park Comment  Meridian Parks seeks comment on draft Storey Park Environmental Assessment

The Parks and Recreation Department is working on a new master plan for Storey Park.  Currently there are approximately 3.7 acres of undeveloped park land.  In an effort to comply with the requirements of the Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), the federal grant program used to purchase the park land in the late 1960’s, the City is proposing to remove 2.55 acres from federal protection and replace that land by acquiring 1.41 acres adjacent to the south end of the park to gain access to Watertower Street.  As part of this effort, the City commissioned an Environmental Assessment of the land to be removed from and added to federal protection.  The Environmental Assessment must be posted for public comment as part of this process.  It is available for review through June 14th.  Please forward comments via email to jgibbons@meridiancity.org   Download it now!

8th Street Playground

New Playground and Restroom Building Coming to 8th Street Park

The Meridian Public Works Department will start work this week on a sewer line project in 8th Street Park that will require the removal of the playground.  However, we have secured two separate grants, Community Development Block Grant and Solid Waste Advisory Committee Recycling Grant, and will be following up the Public Works project with one of our own that will bring a new playground and restroom as well as a spot for a future picnic shelter!  Work is expected to be complete by August or September.
